Artist Statement
I make my ceramic vessels by coiling the bases then scraping back to
refine the shape. The rims are extruded through a die and joined to
the base when they are firm. Finally I add the cones. Once the pieces
are biscuit fired I apply my glazes and re-fire the pieces to 1260°C.
I make a variety of ceramic pieces ranging from large
outdoor sculptures, smaller sculptures, sculpted vessels, coloured fantasy
birds and last but not by any means least, penguins.
Over the last year I have been making collagraph prints. In the past
I did a lot of etching and collagraphy is a new and very exciting direction
for me. Whereas in etching the metal plate is bitten or eaten into by
acid, in collagraphy materials are added to the plate in very thin layers.
The plate is then inked up and carefully cleaned back before printing.
